Sam and Kirsten run for Lung Cancer!
We are so excited to be running our FIRST MARATHON -- and with it, supporting such an awesome organization such as GO2. As we work to train our lungs to handle this new rigor of running, we do not take this ability for granted, and we remember those who had lost this function due to cancer.
We are blessed to honor the memory of our loved ones lost to lung cancer -- Jerry Triller (1943 - 2010), Joan Eddy (1934 - 2004), and Siv Eiesland (1940 - 2020 -- breast cancer metastasized to lungs).
We are also honored to support those who are currently battling lung cancer, and we are grateful to be a part of the encouragement provided to them through GO2.
The funds we raise advances GO2's mission to transform survivorship by improving the lives of those vulnerable, at risk, and diagnosed with lung cancer. They offer resources, up-to-date medical treatment information, relational support and mentoring, and networking for specific treatments, tests and transplants.
Help us support GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. You can also join our Cheer Squad on event day, if you are in the Eau Claire area.
You can help us transform survivorship and save lives from lung cancer! #BeatLungCancer #MyPerfectMarathon

MAKING THE SWITCH
Sam switched his race to the HALF now. Pray with us that this wouldn't be too much either! We so hope that he's able to have a little bit of closure and enjoyment after all this effort.

SEALING THE DEAL
Labor Day weekends we spend at my family's cabin in south central Wisconsin-- hill country. Each year our lake hosts a 5K against the neighboring lake community, and this year, we got to participate! Hilliest 5K we've ever done.
Sam's knee starting shooting pain about half way though, but he pushed strong to the end. He felt crippled by this for the rest of the day though. Looks like there's some IT band irritation, and as he confirmed with his PT friends, it might take a while to fully recover from. He can run through the pain without it directly causing harm to the rest of his leg, but concern is that the pain will cause him to change his gait pattern and lend to further injury. Sadly, we think he'll have to drop down the race level :(

A BIT OF DISCOURAGEMENT...
We're in Milwaukee today for a friend's wedding! We tried going out for a 3 mile long along Lake Michigan, but Sam's knee started hurting pretty bad about 5 minutes in. He had to hobble back-- mostly walking. Hopefully a week of rest will be enough to let it recover.

BEST RUN EVER??
18 miles today!! We both felt like conquerors. Sam's knee started hurting in the last two miles though, which puts a small damper on what would otherwise have undoubtedly been crowned his "best run ever."

LONG WAY HOME?
I (Kirsten) ran 15 miles today... and Sam ran 17!! He took the long way home ;) ( I enjoy maps more than he does.)
Lesson learned: BRING WATER AND SNACKS. We're looking into getting running backpacks now.

COMMITTED
We've been training since the end of June, but today, on August 11, we have finally COMMITTED! We've signed up for the Eau Claire marathon on Sunday September 26th. No backing out now-- and we look forward to having this increased motivation! Currently in our training we've made it up to 13 miles. Halfway there. We've stuck around the radius of our apartment in Roseville for our runs, and we're grateful for the abundance of beautiful parks, trails, and lakes here! No shortage of scenic routes.
