This weekend, March 5-7, we are taking part in David Goggins' 4x4x48 Challenge to support the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer in memory of Terry Karlstad – a loving, patient, funny and eternally optimistic father, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Terry welcomed my mother, sister and me in his life in 2009, when we arrived to rural Alabama from faraway Romania. He was a wonderful husband to my mother and a supportive father to my sister and me, generously and selflessly sharing his life with us and helping us ease into a new culture. Despite his own personal battles, he was constantly thinking of others. It’s an honor to run in his memory, passing on the lesson he taught us – there’s always so much you can do for others, if you only keep moving.
Starting this Friday at 8pm PST, I will run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, along with thousands of others worldwide who are raising money for causes close to their hearts. I would not dare to enter this challenge without the support of Cody, my mother Sorina, and my sister Loli. You can join us in this experience via social media, or even better, by lacing up your sneakers and running with us, wherever you may be. In a time when there is so much divisiveness in the world, this event gives us all a rare opportunity to come together, across oceans and countries, and contribute to making this world a little better for those around us.
The funds we raise will advance GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer's mission of saving, extending and improving the lives of those vulnerable, at risk, and diagnosed with lung cancer.
We are stronger together. Help us raise funding and awareness to change the reality of living with lung cancer by ending stigma, increasing public and private research funding, and ensuring access to care. #BeatLungCancer
